X Factor winner Joe McElderry has come out as gay to his fans. The 19 year old South Shields singer made the revelation on his website today, warning followers that some revealing newspaper articles would be published in tomorrow’s newspapers. He wrote:
The Mirror later published an article containing more details on Joe’s announcement, they revealed that he had only came out to his mum one week ago. On why he had never admitted his sexuality when asked in previous interviews Joe responded: “I’ve had time to think about things. I wasn’t attracted to anyone anyway, male or female. It never really entered my head I was gay. But I just know. It’s how I feel.” He added: “I’m so happy. It’s all been so recent to be honest. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve had time to think and come to realise who I am. I have grown up a lot. “I know it sounds crazy but before then, I was so busy. It hadn’t even crossed my mind. I only told my mum last week, on a train. “She was fine, great even. She’d actually asked us in the past, not because she thought I was gay but because she’s a supportive mum. “She’d say, ‘I don’t care if you have a girlfriend or boyfriend’. My family have been so supportive” On previous relationships, Joe admitted that he is very inexperienced. He said: “I’ve kissed lots of girls but only one boy. I thought, ‘Oh, that’s weird, maybe that’s what happens.’ I didn’t know what it meant. It was nothing serious, just a one-off thing.” Joe is preparing to launch his debut album in just a few short months and was a little worried when he had to tell record label boss Simon Cowell his news. However his fears were misplaced, the singer said that Cowell was very supportive and understanding when he phoned from his private yacht this week. Joe concluded: “Simon was 100% supportive. I’ve spoken to Cheryl but with her being ill, it’s not really been a priority to tell her. But I guess she’ll read this and she’ll be really happy for me. “I’m not worried about how fans will react. They have always said they’ll back me no matter what. Everyone’s been really kind so I would like to thank them and your readers for all the support.” We’d love to hear what you think of Joe’s news. Dannii Minogue has admitted that she was devastated when Sharon Osbourne publicly slated her in 2007. The new mum revealed that it was hard enough to work with the older woman on The X Factor but things became increasingly cold after Sharon rubbished her on the Graham Norton show.
Minogue told Now: “I was devastated when she went on to Graham Norton’s show and laid into me. I then had to see her on the show a few days later. It was awful. “It’s not any sort of behaviour I’d ever been exposed to before.” However Dannii revealed that show boss Simon Cowell made things more bearable for her. She added: “Simon knew how vulnerable I was which was probably why he was so protective towards me. “My first ever day on the show I told Simon he’d helped me focus on something other than my sister’s cancer battle.” On returning to the ITV talent show this autumn Dannii said: “It’s the best job in the world. Katy Perry has insisted that while she enjoyed Simon Cowell’s company during her recent stint as an X Factor guest judge, she would never ‘shag’ the star. Katy, who is engaged to kooky comedian Russell Brand, was asked by Q magazine whether she would ever sleep with the music mogul, to which she replied:
“Never! No!… Oh my God! I mean, nothing against Simon Cowell. He certainly has charisma coming from every pore. “Simon has stopped so many suspect people from singing so perhaps we owe him a debt. But… shag him? No. I’m very happy with my charming Englishman. I have no need for another. No, not even for a permanent spot on The X Factor. The California Girls singer went on to detail how well she got on with Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole, describing her as ‘just edible.’ Perry said: “The most gorgeous judge is Cheryl Cole. That woman is just edible. She kept calling me… what was it? Popette? ‘You’re a popette’. “She kept saying that to me. Is that a compliment? It is? I love Cheryl. Cheryl Cole has pledged her gratitude to the team of NHS doctors that ‘saved her life’ when she contracted malaria. After collapsing at a photo shoot, the X Factor judge was initially admitted to the intensive care at West London’s Cromwell Hospital, before being transferred to the tropical diseases unit at University College London Hospital. She has since thanked the staff there and particularly boss Professor Peter Chiodini, for helping her recuperate from the disease.
The 27-year-old said: “I want to say how grateful I am for everything you guys have done. I wouldn’t be here now, if it wasn’t for you.” A friend told The Mirror: “The situation was looking very bleak at one point. Her blood count was dangerously low, she had fluid on her lungs and she was jaundiced. “But she was in the best possible place. The doctors there are first class and Cheryl knew afterwards she virtually owes her life to them.” Cole is now believed to be considering making a sizeable donation to the specialist team at UCLH. The friend said: “It’s something she’s giving serious thought to. She is so grateful for their expertise and care.” Related posts:
